Marco de Blois

For its 14th edition, the PIAFF has decided to add a new prize to its prize list.

This is an Honorary Prize, intended to reward people who, through their work, allow us to better know, appreciate and understand animated cinema.

Festival managers, journalists, specialists, exhibitors, researchers... these are the essential go-betweens that PIAFF wants to highlight. These people who, thanks to their passion for frame by frame, make us discover little-known treasures of the past, the nuggets of today and the future names of animation.

For this first year, the festival wanted to highlight the work of a multifaceted person. He is simultaneously a festival director, journalist, teacher and programmer, but he is also one of the rare curators of animated films within a cinematheque.

Above all, he is a true connoisseur and lover of animated cinema in all its forms, capable of speaking with the same force about the cinema of Norman McLaren, the first steps of Gertie or the work of Michèle Cournoyer.

And what joy when he makes us discover documents from the famous Retrospective mondial du cinema d'animation, organized in 1967 by the Cinémathèque québécoise: a series of flipbooks by great masters, photos, writings...a whole story that we revives a little thanks to the sharing of these documents.

This happiness of sharing is surely one of the first qualities of the ferryman, the ferryman and Marco de Blois is one of the most generous people we know.

We thank him for all this work accomplished and it is with great pleasure that we award him this first PIAFF Honorary Prize.
